The North Stafford and Stafford Rotary clubs collaborated on a district grant, supplemented by a donation from Rappahannock Rotary, to establish a library learning center at Fundación Exodo, an orphanage in La Paz, El Salvador. Rotarians Lena Gonzalez Berrios and Donna Almborg worked with e3kids international and Cornerstone Church alongside the children and staff of Fundación Exodo to get the library up and running, adding 1,625 books in Spanish and English as well as 14 laptops, educational resources, learning toys, and professional resources for staff. In addition, they installed 8 water filtration systems, provided trauma training and library training, repaired the building’s wifi and antenna, and donated movie equipment.

 

Lena and Donna visited the Club Rotario San Salvador Sur and exchanged flags, as well as reconnected with Iglesia Vista Hermosa, which has previously partnered with Cornerstone Church and Fundación Exodo on service projects. Strengthening this local connection will ensure sustainability for Biblioteca Fundación Exodo’s operation.

 

Fundación Exodo Director Claudia Cordero, and the entire community, are thrilled by the outcome of the library project, which will have an enduring, positive outcome on the education and development of children, teens, and adults for many years to come.
