Tysons and Dunn Loring-Merrifield Rotary Clubs Create Hope in our Community at ROTV 24

RI President R. Gordon R. McInally calls for Rotary to create hope in the world by working for peace and mental well-being. He urges members to engage in challenging conversations and earn the necessary trust to realize these values.

In keeping with the RI theme, on April 12, 2024, Tysons, and Dunn Loring- Merrifield Rotary Clubs present a charitable festival supporting elderly and marginalized youth while supporting mental health sustainability. Over 130 guests gathered at the Washington Golf and Country Club for lively entertainment and to partake in wine tasting, silent and live auctions, raffles, and presentation of awards to four selected charity honorees who serve the populations in our theme.

The Tysons Rotary Club honored Second Story, a beacon of hope for homeless youth, teens in crisis, and young mothers. Insight Memory Care, a nonprofit organization providing quality memory and cognitive care for families living with dementia, was also recognized for its invaluable service to the community.

The Dunn Loring-Merrifield Rotary recognized Bob and Alisa’s Rawlins of Gold Gym-Manassas for its support of the Iliff Rehabilitation and Nursing facility in Dunn Loring, Virginia, and Mr. Kevin and Mr. Bobby Warhurst of Merrifield Garden Center for aiding and for discounts on plants for the residents and children at the Iliff Nursing and Rehab Center,

A few months ago, the Rotary Clubs of Dunn Loring-Merrifield and Tysons proudly hosted a Ukrainian Forum. This evening, filled with children’s courage, resilience, and hope, served as a powerful platform to delve into the realities of the Ukrainian war. The remarkable journey of survival undertaken by families and children amidst adversity was a testament to the strength of the human spirit. The compassion and enthusiasm of our esteemed guests ignited a spirit of generosity, culminating in an auction that raised approximately $3600. These funds will be used to support Ukrainian programs in America, a tangible reflection of our collective commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by conflict.

A good time was had by all.
