Bringing Hope Through Clean Water: Goochland Rotary’s Mission in Kenya

Wayne Dementi of the Rotary Club of Goochland, VA, recently visited the Rotary Club of Orange to share an inspiring update on the incredible work his club is doing in Africa. He spoke about their Kenya Water Sanitation Project, an initiative dedicated to bringing clean water to communities in need.
The project focuses on the Motosiet community in Kitale, Kenya, where the Goochland Rotarians are working to construct a deep well water system. This system will serve three schools and include a public tap for a neighboring area, ultimately benefiting around 3,500 people.
Wayne’s involvement began after a vision trip to Kenya, and the project is a true collaboration. The Rotary Club of Kitale is managing the effort on the ground, with support from the Chief of the Motosiet community and the Director of Education Equals Hope, an organization dedicated to strengthening education.
Leading the project locally is Moses Ng’ania, President of the Rotary Club of Kitale and chairman of Water Mission Kenya. He has been instrumental in developing the Motosiet Water Project Plan, hosting community engagement meetings, and establishing a Water Sanitation Committee to ensure successful implementation.
This is exactly the kind of work that embodies Rotary’s commitment to service above self—making a real difference in people’s lives, both at home and around the world.
