Brigade of Mercy … Compassion without Borders

Sep 30, 2023 | Club News, Tysons

Somebody said, “Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your heart.”

What if your vision was to provide charitable humanitarian relief to the destitute, homeless, orphans, refugees, and victims of war and other calamities.

What if your vision was actualized in serving Afghan refugees? Since late August 2020, BOM has been attending to their needs at the local hotels in Virginia. We provided clothing, shoes, luggage, hygiene products, phone chargers, toys, and many other items to help over 200 families. We also helped families in Fort Lee. We are now helping families settling around the Washington, D.C.

What if your vision was actualized at the Hoffman-Boston Elementary School, a Title I school serving low-income students in Arlington County, VA. BOM built a food pantry containing nonperishable items for the students and their families: oil, pasta, canned vegetables, granola bars, canned tuna, and jam.

What if your vision was actualized at Second Story, which provides safe havens and opportunities to grow and thrive to youth experiencing homelessness and youth and families in crisis. BOM provides food, gift cards, clothing, and baby items for teens residing in shelters, young mothers, homeless youth, and local communities in need.

What if your vision was actualized at New Hope Housing, a non-profit, finding lasting solutions to end the cycle of homelessness by offering men, women, and children who are homeless the services they need to change their lives and succeed. BOM provides nonperishable food, clothing, undergarments, towels, and air mattresses. BOM provides welcome baskets when people move from shelters to apartments. Before the new facility opened, BOM furnished an apartment in Bailey’s Shelter and Supportive Housing.

What if this were just a sample of the service above self, offered by Brigades of Mercy, the Vision of Tysons Rotary past president, founder, and CEO, Ambreen Rizvi. On September 24, 2023, BOM will celebrate its five-year milestone at the Mclean Community Center from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Tysons Rotary is proud to collaborate with and celebrate Brigade of Mercy on this remarkable occasion.
