On August 6th, Rotarian Doug Harris hosted a program entitled Virginia Farm Bureau–Created by Farmers, Working for Farmers with guest speaker Matt Nuckols. Matt is the VFB District 7 Field Service Director, representing Orange, Culpeper, Fauquier, King George, Madison, Prince William-Fairfax, Spotsylvania, and Stafford.
Agriculture plays an important part of Orange Counties economy. Farmland in Orange County, VA covers 45,724 acres (1.5% of the state) total around 322 farms. Virginia alone has roughly 43,225 farms covering 7.8 million acres. Virginia farms are 90% owned by generational families, not corporations.
According to their web site at Virginia Farm Bureau www.vafb.com – Over 50 years ago Virginia farmers created the Virginia Farm Bureau Service Corporation to provide high quality, affordable products to Farm Bureau members.
