North Stafford Rotarian Serves in Guyana

May 15, 2024 | Club News, North Stafford

North Stafford Rotary Membership Chair Ynolde Gillan, along with 11 members of the Woodbridge Seventh-Day Adventist Church, traveled to Golden Grove, Guyana on a humanitarian mission. We brought eight suitcases full of donations, including clothing for women and girls, medicine and medical equipment, and toiletries. North Stafford Rotary donated $500 toward the $850 cost of transporting the suitcases to Guyana, and e3kids International donated four suitcases’ worth of undergarments and socks.

Working through extreme heat, disease-carrying insects, and impoverished conditions, our mission group persevered, basking in the warmth and gratitude of the people of Golden Grove. We held a health fair, a breakfast where villagers took what they needed from the supplies brought, and visited the village’s two medical clinics to distribute medical supplies and equipment. We also purchased groceries and medications, and arranged doctors’ visits to villagers who normally would not have such access.

Our Pastor held nightly tent meetings, and we saw miraculous answers to prayer. Villagers were healed from medical conditions, and received much needed medical care, food and clothing. We celebrated a wedding, an 18-year wedding anniversary, and the baptism of 22 souls for the Lord.

Despite the constant battle against mosquitoes, sand gnats, heat, and humidity, our humanitarian mission to Guyana was both productive and successful. We are grateful for the support from e3kids and North Stafford Rotary, and most of all for the Lord’s presence, protection, and providence.
