An Oregonian, Steve Cook has been elected to serve as District 7610 Governor during Rotary Year 2012-2013. Steve completed his undergraduate studies in engineering at the United States Military Academy at West Point New York and his graduate studies in Education and Human Services at Boston University.
Steve served twenty-seven and half years as an Army officer in Infantry and Aviation, attending numerous military schools and colleges. He served at all staff and command levels up to Brigade Commander of the Fourth Brigade 1st Armored Division and finally on the Army Staff, retiring in 1998 from the office of the Chief of Staff, Army. He was awarded numerous U.S. and foreign decorations throughout his military career.
Steve entered industry in 1998 as Senior Vice President for MiH (Make it Happen) Development Group, Inc. Where he developed a portfolio of business that led to its procurement by Goldbelt Inc. He currently is the President of Goldbelt Wolf, LLC and Alaskan Native Corporation representing 3200 members of the Tlingit and Haida Tribes. Steve has helped this business grow into a multi-million dollar a year company that is respected for their performance and quality of service.
Steve is currently a member of the West Springfield Rotary Club. He has been a Rotarian for over 25 years – with 20 years of perfect attendance. But most of us know him for the work he did the Crystal City–Pentagon Club where he has remained a member since 1992-2009, serving as President (1996-1997) and receiving the club’s Rotarian of the Year award in (1992-1993). Steve was very instrumental in revitalizing the Crystal City-Pentagon RC and is known throughout the District for his work on Membership. Prior to his arrival in Northern Virginia Steve was a member of three other Rotary Clubs where he also held various positions of leadership and was selected as the Rotarian of the Year for the West Point-Highland Falls Rotary Club in 1987-1988.
Steve has served in various positions throughout District 7610 as Membership Chair, Membership Development Chair, and a Foundation Coordinator. Additionally Steve served as Lieutenant Governor 1997-1998, and Assistant Governor since1999-2002. Steve is a Paul Harris Fellow, a Major Donor, Benefactor, and Bequest Society member.
Steve and his wife, Marla, also a Paul Harris Fellow, have been married since 1970 and live in Burke (the last move in twenty three moves while serving in the US Army) , and they have three children and three wonderful grandchildren. |
