News About the Proposed  Rotary  Club of Ashburn

New Clubs Starting in Ashburn and Lorton Areas

The Extension Committee has met several times to identify possible locations for future Rotary clubs. In this short period of time they are close to the formation of two new clubs in the Ashburn and Lorton areas. They now need district clubs to join them in their efforts by becoming “sponsors” and “mentors." This includes providing some guidance and financial support. DG Horace McCormack has appointed Scott Mills to be his Special Representative for the formation of the Ashburn Club, and Assistant Governor Dave Mercer as Special Representative for the Lorton Club.

For suggestions and additional information contact  Tin Tin Raschid. District 7610 hopes you are as excited as we are about the potential for these clubs. There is also a third club under consideration — a club that will meet on Saturday. More information on this possibility will be provided later.

The prospective members of the provisional Rotary Club of Ashburn, VA, invite you to one of their upcoming club meetings, which are held each Thursday at Noon at Embassy Suites Dulles North, 44610 Waxpool Road, just west of Loudoun County Parkway. At the January 14 meeting, the club elected officers and directors to serve through June 2011:  President John Warren, Vice President/President-Elect Paul Yeloushan, Secretary Mary Maguire, Treasurer Brad Ashby, Sergeant at Arms Ray Repage, and Directors Nancy Pav and Scott Mills.  Twenty-four members have committed to become Charter Members, and several more will be sending in their charter fees before the New Club Application is sent to Rotary International in early February. PDG Tin Lay (District Extension Chair) and Scott Mills (District Governor’s Special Representative) estimate conservatively that there will be 28 likely Charter Members. The proposed club welcomes all Active Rotarians and Guests to attend the club’s meetings.  Lunch is $15.00.

Please contact Scott Mills for more information.
